Closure of Friends in Need Project

The people who fund our Friends in Need project have decided that they no longer wish to commission the service from Mind in Croydon. The project will expire on 30th September 2019.

In terms of the support that Mind in Croydon can offer to people who are members of Friends in Need; we are happy for people to become members of the Hub, which means you can get the support of that project, attend groups and seek support from the staff there. If you would like to join the Hub, you can get an application form from our staff at Fairfield House 10, Altyre Road, East Croydon. Alternatively you can access a referral form via The Hub Leaflet.

Pop Choir Concert

Friends in Need – Need You!

Depression and Anxiety in Croydon:
Volunteers Needed!

Do you have your own lived experience of depression and anxiety or know someone close to you who has?

If so you’ll understand just how isolating and lonely it can feel; some days just leaving the house can seem like climbing a mountain.

Friends in Need is on the lookout for two new volunteers to help grow its valuable and supportive social network.

  • Can you give up to 4 hours of your time each week to help us behind the scenes as well as to be on hand to help people feel welcome at our regular meet-ups?
  • Are you a natural communicator who is skilled at using social media and databases?
  • Can you be available during weekends (late morning/early afternoon) or in the evening during the week?

If so, please get in touch. We are flexible and there are a range of options available where you could help.

This is a fantastic opportunity to explore Croydon, meet some wonderful people and gain your own confidence, strength, and understanding of social connections in improving wellbeing.

Please contact Katie and Sarah at: friendsinneed@mindincroydon.org.uk

Smoking? Vaping? Still Craving?

Stopping completely, improves your mental health, adds years to your life and puts more £££ in your pocket!

Let us help you with free support and advice.

We run a drop in Thursdays 3-4pm Fairfield House.

Trained advisors will listen to you and discuss your smoking history and current patterns. Based on this information they will work with you to set up your personalised plan. The aim is to stop smoking completely whether you cut down gradually, or bite the bullet and stop altogether.

The advisors will give you free, safe products to replace the nicotine and will also meet with you or be in touch with you every week to cheer you on and help pick you up on tough days.

It’s a drop-in, so other smokers will also be there to support you…and you can support them!

Help is available for up to 12 weeks…who knows, you might not even need this long!

When can I start?

NOW!

Runs every Thursday at Fairfield House, 10 Altyre Road, East Croydon, Surrey, CR0 5LA

Depression Alliance merges with Mind

On the 1st August Depression Alliance merged with Mind. Mind in Croydon is one of seven Local Mind Associations who will now deliver the Friends in Need service previously delivered by Depression Alliance. Depression Alliance’s services are all rooted in peer support. Friends in Need was created by Depression Alliance. It is a supportive space that everyone living with depression can use to connect with others online or in their local area. Nationally, Mind will continue to deliver the Friends in Need online community. You may be familiar with the Friends in Need local wellbeing network –  it provides face-to-face services for people with depression.

We would like to welcome Sarah Strong and Katie Oliver to the Mind in Croydon team.

You can find out more about Mind’s merger with Depression Alliance on Mind’s website: www.mind.org.uk/depressionalliance
